Overview

The problem: customers found the existing environmental controls software old, difficult to use, and hard to navigate — with a learning curve so steep it took months to train an employee and years to master.

The goal: create a complementary SaaS product that coexists with the old software and surfaces the 20% of functions used by 80% of users in a cloud-based, mobile-friendly, responsive web application.

User research

Growers prefer ease of use with the right features rather than every feature in a complex package. Key pain points were a cluttered home screen, deeply nested features, inconsistency between sites, and a lack of visual indicators for changes in sensor values or equipment status.

Refinement & mockups

Building on consistent grid sections and graceful degradation, the design highlights zones that need attention, gives alarms a clearer hierarchy, adds data-visualization aids, and follows WCAG 2.1 contrast, iconography, tooltips, and alt text for accessibility.

Impact & takeaways

TITANproxi gives growers easier access to environmental controls from anywhere, on any screen, with familiarity through consistency. Lesson learned: hardware limitations can be the biggest motivator for software creativity, but balancing hardware, firmware, and software is more involved than expected.
